Lasertec corporation

Company highlights

Semiconductors are made by separate companies or divisions that divide design, manufacturing, and testing among them, and the prices and supply volumes of equipment and materials are set by product specifications, contract terms, factory production capacity, and inventory levels. The time between receiving an order and shipment, customer acceptance, revenue recognition, and receipt of payment depends on the contract, and investment in factories and equipment also becomes an expense through depreciation, spread over several years after the assets start operating.

“How Prices and Supply Work in Japan's Semiconductor Industry”, Chapter 3: When an Order Becomes Revenue

Book’s reference date 2026-09-20 / data last checked 2026-10-20

The move that changed Lasertec

It put a new mask inspection system with a higher inspection speed, the ACTIS A200HiT, on the market for plants that use EUV exposure, and took orders for several units after the first one.

On October 31, 2025, Lasertec announced the ACTIS A200HiT. The announcement states that optimization of the optical system and other work "achieved three times the inspection speed of the ACTIS A150." This is the company's description of the product's performance, separate from any record of productivity or cost at a customer's plant improving by the same multiple. In its FAQ of April 30, 2026, the company then said, "we received an order for the first unit in Q2; as of now we have received orders for several units," and at its briefing on August 6, 2026, it explained that "evaluation has not yet begun at the customer" and that it had "taken an additional order that also serves as an evaluation." Putting out the product, taking the order, delivering, and evaluation at the customer's plant. The stages proceed in this order, and each is at a separate point in time.

Coverage in the book

  • From Order to Shipment, the ACTIS Mask Inspection System Takes a Little Over a Year
  • What Lasertec Is Paid Splits into System Sales and the Services That Follow
  • Orders Received, Net Sales, and Order Backlog Count Different Events in the Same Year
  • Orders Received Include Adjustments for Cancellations and Changes
  • Within a Single Contract, the Point of Revenue Splits
