Book’s reference date 2026-09-10 / data last checked 2026-10-20

Key points in this volumeIn the secondhand business, profits depend not just on selling prices, but on whether a company buys goods for resale or earns fees by connecting buyers and sellers.

In the merchandise categories the company sets out, Reuse, which covers secondhand goods, went from ¥99.4 billion in the year ended March 2018 to ¥300.6 billion in the year ended March 2026, while Rental fell from ¥66.6 billion to ¥25.1 billion.

Sales in the year ended March 2026 were ¥481.2 billion and operating profit ¥14.2 billion. The category with the highest gross margin is Rental at 62.7%, but the larger gross profit in yen is Reuse at ¥130.3 billion, 68.8% of consolidated gross profit.

The move that changed Geo

It made the name of its secondhand stores the name of the company.

At the annual general meeting of shareholders on June 26, 2026, a change to the articles of incorporation renaming the company Second Retailing Co., Ltd. was approved. It takes effect on October 1, 2026. The name Geo Holdings comes from the GEO stores that handle DVDs and games, and the new name from the Second Street stores that handle secondhand goods. At the same time the company published a plan to reach 1,000 Second Street stores overseas, 5,000 stores across the group and consolidated sales of ¥1 trillion ($6.25 billion) by fiscal 2035. In the year ended March 2026 it had 148 stores overseas, 2,274 across the group, and consolidated sales of ¥481.2 billion.
